We’re Home!

Just an update to let you know that we are home!!!

I will encourage the team to blog over the next several days – so you can have a better idea of our experiences!

Pictures, too!

Please pray for our team as they process this experience.  We have visited the Fields of the Fatherless and I am quite sure that none of us will be the same…

SOOOOOOOO excited to announce that HHH is going on our very first global orphan care trip!  We are going to work with this awesome organization in China!  Woot!

Our first team fundraiser is on May 22 at Grace community.  We will be hosting a Baked Potato Bar with dessert for a donation to our team expenses.  Please come and support the very first (Lord, willing) ANNUAL global orphan care trip!!!

I just wanted to take a minute to share some awesome FREE resources for adoptive parents.

They are both offered from Empowered to Connect.

The first is Insights and Gifts Video Series.  My husband and I have viewed them as adoptive parents and plan to watch them again before we travel to adopt our almost 9 year old daughter.  These short videos offer insight into our children adopted from hard places, as well as gifts we can give to connect with our children.

The second is the Created to Connect Study guide.  This guide is designed to accompany the book “The Connected Child” (not a free resource, but an AMAZING book for families with adopted children from hard places).  This guide is a Christian supplement to “The Connected Child”.  It is designed to use in a small group setting, but is also a wonderful resource for couples to go thru together.

These resources are part of the Empowered to Connect website that is also loaded with MANY more resources – most are free!  These resources are intended to help parents and adopted children CONNECT.

I just read a blog entry on the Christian Alliance for Orphans blog and it spoke to me.

Maybe it spoke to me because I know it’s a tough road.

Our prayer is that His Hands of Hope will truly be a ministy about loving orphans full cirlce.  That means reaching out in ministry to orphans in “their distress”.  It means coming alongside families as they are in the process of bringing orphans into their homes.  It means continuing to love and come alongside once these children are no longer orphans, but “adopted sons” and daughters.

Duffel Drive

Children enter foster care for many different reasons.  But all experience the trauma of leaving their homes.  During this tragic time they are often given a trash bag to collect their personal items.  What message does this send God’s precious children?

His Hands of Hope wants to change this practice in the Harvey County area by providing duffel bags to the agencies who assist children during the intake process.

Watch for the horse tank.  We will collect new small/medium duffel bags May 23rd through June 6.

If you need further information contact Patti Carter at 706.2016.

Orphan

His Hands of Hope would like to take the opportunity to increase awareness about a new movie that opened in theaters last weekend.  The Warner Brothers movie is “Orphan”.

This movie – even as simply portrayed in the commercials and trailers – is not promoting the cause of loving the fatherless…  Instead, it portrays the orphan – especially the older orphan – in a horrific light.

We believe that Orphans Deserve Better.
